The Woodlice

The new single Hovercraft from the Album ‘Keep the Light On Baby’ is out on Undergrowth Records.

When we were kids, maybe 8,9,10, we were fascinated by those ads in the back of American comics, eg Caspar the Ghost, Batman, Superman etc that promised you x-ray specs, or bodybuilding devices that made you Mr Universe in one week but most exciting were the ones that said you could build your own hovercraft. We never did send off for a hovercraft but instead got the chops for a pop punk song and bought some old braces off ebay.

The album ‘Keep the Light On Baby’ was recorded in Easton in Bristol July / August 2020 between the first and second lockdowns in the UK. A time when, for a moment, everything seemed lighter than air. Free from the past and trying not to think about the future. ‘Keep the Light On Baby’ reflects that period of freedom and release, searching for brightness, jumping between shadows, looking for lift-off in the pillars of sunlight.

I never did send off for a hovercraft but now hovering around middle age I have written a pop punk song about this very impulse. And, to make me lighter than air, I’ve spent a frivolous amount of time building several prototypes out of cardboard with my bandmates. The new single “Hovercraft” is out, complete with a reckless Hovercraft video, Friday May 21st, to celebrate the launch of our new album Keep the Light On Baby. Keep your eyes peeled and your feet floaty.

‘Keep the Light On Baby’ is out today! Check out the video of Jet and his neighbours boogying through the Winter night. You can also listen to the single and pre-order the album on gorgeous Vinyl or CD.

Jet dressed up in his warmest old tweed coat and put on a Hi-Viz to alert any cars and then filmed his neighbours dancing in their front bay windows at night. Sounds a bit out there but it worked. And I hope the video says something about keeping keeping on, separate but together.

Those tiny wee beesties of pop folk loveliness The Woodlice have a new single and video out Sunday 14th February 2021 to delight your eyeballs and whisper in your Lords and Peers.

Featuring the double glazed dancing of Jet McDonald and his neighbours, ‘Keep the Light On Baby’ is a sizzling disco lullaby with added guitar sauce from Undergrowth’s Martin Callingham.

Anyone who can spot Jet’s hip wiggle in the video will get a free cup of tea in the post.
